One of the questions I see asked all the time on different forums is “What is the best website builder?” or “What is the best free website?” Lets take a look at this a little further. First of all I’d like you to think of something that you have got in the past for free, You knew it wasn’t really free or that there was a catch. “Free Winter Check” for your car will inevitably lead to the garage trying to sell you anti freeze or tyres, “Buy two and get the third free” simply means that the first two products are 50% more expensive than they should be, Free postage means that the postage cost is already added onto the price, anyone who has sold regularly on ebay will know this. When I see the word ‘free’ I feel a little insulted. As if they can pull that trick on me! You should feel it too!
Free Website Design Software
The free website builders simply lure people in. Yes the website will be free but it will have adverts on there that you will have no control over. Your website will also have a domain name that includes the name of the free website provider such as yourcompany.freeweb.com and to remove this and have your own domain you’ll have to pay. Then you’ll keep on paying for every little bit of functionality that you want.
Easy Web Design Software
There are so many website builders on the market these days that you’ll get dizzy trying to figure out which is the best. Let me get one thing straight, it’s like trying to figure which is the best cheap brand cola. None are ideal. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some nice websites that have been built using these website builders, They mostly have an easy to use interface, preset templates and are no more difficult to use than a desktop publishing program.
These website builders are ideal for someone who wants to build a website to show off their hobby or perhaps to promote a small social group. There is so much more to building a website than just to make it look pretty though, if you are in business then you’ll need your website to work hard for you. It’s perhaps more important than your telephone. Do you remember when the Yellow Pages was a few inches thick? This was before the days of the internet. Have you seen the Yellow Pages recently? It’s woefully thing, less than an inch thick, why? Simply because people just jump onto the internet and type a phrase into the search bar instead of thumbing through the yellow pages.
If you’re website isn’t on the first page of those search results then you simply wont get seen and it’s for this reason alone that website builders aren’t up to the job. What industry are you in? Do you do nail enhancements? If so what would you say to someone who was going to buy some acrylics (Liquid & Powder to people in the know) and apply them themselves for their wedding day? Are you a mechanic? Would you advise someone to download some service instructions and service their own Aston Martin? A Photographer? It’s easy taking photos right? You get my point here. Sure anyone could do their own nails, service their own car and take some quick snaps but to what standard? If you’re considering a website for your business then you don’t want a system designed purely for DIY, a system that is limited purely to make it easy for anyone to use.
Cost Comparison Of Website Builders
I’ve had countless people come to me in the past and say something like “When I started out I used this website builder and it was good but…” And that’s the thing, People use website builders thinking that they are easy to use, which they are, they look good, I can’t deny that, and that they are cheap. Which they actually aren’t, very soon the monthly price becomes so high and the functionality so restricted that they decide to have a proper website designed.
An average basic package with one of the better website builders costs around £8 per month. Once you’ve added some extras to the package and trust me, you will want to as the months progress, then this can easily get to £20 per month. That’s £240 per year, over 4 years that’s £960. The worst of it however is when you decide that the lack of functionality and ongoing costs are enough and you decide to move your website. You can’t, I’ll say that again, YOU CAN”T MOVE YOUR WEBSITE, not because your website builders are being stubborn, just that you can’t move it because it needs their software to run. It has been built on their own specific software and so needs to stay on their hosting.
You’re trapped! All around you are competitors who for the last few years chose wisely and have been able to add the latest in functionality to their websites, they are fully integrated into Facebook so that any comment made on the website appears on the original posters timeline, They have interactive maps, online booking facilities, newsletter sign ups and more, what’s worse, they are ranking above you in the search results thanks to every single thing about their website being geared towards SEO (SEO stands for search engine optimisation, You can find out more by reading my SEO Tips)
What Is The Best Website Builder?
So what should you use to build a website? If you’re serious, you’ll perhaps already understand that a website is perhaps the most important investment that a business can make, You’re probably dizzy with all the offers on TV and via email about web design software and builders, but which is the best? You might be surprised to learn that it isn’t anything you’ll see on TV, it isn’t anything that you’ll see for £8 per month with a catchy name like moondog or wobbly 🙂 It’s actually free software, you will of course need your own hosting but we’ll cover that later. It’s WordPress, the best websites are built using WordPress. I’m not talking the free WordPress blogs at WordPress.com I mean the self hosted software called WordPress. that can be found at WordPress.org.
Why WordPress is the best Web Design Option
1 in 3 websites designed today are built with WordPress, from small businesses in every town to large corporations like Ford, Coca Cola, Sony, Samsung, The New York Times, and even celebrities like Katie Perry , Snoop Dog and Beyoncé are running websites built with WordPress. How many large companies do you know who run websites built with the website builders we’ve just discussed? Hmm, none! The best news of all! If your budget doesn’t stretch to paying a web designer to build you a WordPress website you can do it yourself and the monthly cost is actually LESS than you pay for an inferior website from one of the website builders. It’s easy to install, a doddle to work with and is future proof. Best of all, it’s yours, you can move to another host if you wish, you can add endless functionality to it and most of all WordPress is the best CMS for SEO by far!
