You’ve probably already heard about the reduced visibility on Facebook pages, if you haven’t then allow me explain.
Facebook has an algorithm called EDGERANK, rather than bore you with the details, basically this algorithm looks at how active your Facebook page is in terms of amount of times you post, the variety of your posts i.e images, links, etc, the number of likes, comments, and shares your post gets from your audience and a few other factors.
Facebook say that they’ve introduced this algorithm to better serve the community which I can understand in one respect but the number one reason is because Facebook want you to pay to promote your page. Let’s be fair, who can blame them, they’re in business like the rest of us.
So How Can I Get More People To See My Posts?
Well this is mostly common sense, based on how the Edge Rank algorithm works, we don’t need to call Jonathan Creek to figure out how we get more of our page fans to see what we post. We need to post often, post a variety of things, i.e images, links, funnies, text updates, offers, questions etc and we need to encourage interaction from our fans.
Inform Your Facebook Fans
Most Facebook users have no idea about Edge Rank so why not let them know why they aren’t seeing updates from you? Facebook is a very visual medium so try changing your cover photo to inform your fans how they can see more of what you post? I’ve created a couple of images, feel free to use them on your own Facebook page.
The first is a Facebook cover image for your page, it informs your fans how they can get EVERY update that you post. The second is an image that you can post on your timeline encouraging your fans to interact with you page.

Create Content That Almost Demands Interaction
I’ve noticed that one of the major property websites Zoopla use an interesting approach on their Facebook page, They often post two properties at the same price point on their page and ask which do you prefer. I’ve invariably clicked on some of these posts to visit the houses in question (I’m always looking to move further south) and I’ve noticed how many shares, likes and comments that these posts receive. How could you tailor this approach to your business?
Interact With Other Facebook Pages
A surefire way of getting others to interact with your Facebook page is if you interact with theirs. Obviously you want to be interacting as your page rather than with your personal Facebook profile and this is really easy to do. Simply navigate to the page that you want to interact with and then click the three little dots to the right of the ‘Message’ button, then select ‘Like As Your Page’.
Once you’ve liked as your page you can then comment, like and interact as your own Facebook page, to do this, go to the top blue bar and click on the tiny arrow at the top right of the screen, select the page that you wish to use and away you go! To switch back to your personal profile, click the arrow again.
You’ll find that the more you interact with pages as your page, the more people will interact when you post, Social media is what it says on the tin, Social!
I hope you’ve found this useful, please feel free to pop over to my Facebook Page and say hi, let’s get social!
